Special Exhibition: “World Heritage Jōmon” at Kyoto Museum of Culture

Explore Japan’s ancient Jōmon culture through a prestigious exhibition at Kyoto — featuring archaeological treasures from across northern Japan and the iconic Shakōki-dogū.
From October 4 to November 30, 2025, the Special Exhibition “World Heritage Jōmon” is held at the Kyoto Museum of Culture (Kyoto Cultural Museum). This exhibition highlights the significance of the Hokkaido & Northeast Japan Jōmon Archaeological Sites, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2021.
Exhibits include the “Jōmon Goddess” (Nyonin Jōmon), goggle-eyed clay figurines known as Shakōki-dogū, and a variety of artifacts that reveal the spiritual and daily life of Jōmon people. Some items are rotated during the exhibition period.
