Why do people sit only on the east side of the Kamo River?

Hint: It’s all about the sunshine and the view.

If you walk along the Kamo River on a sunny day, you’ll see that most people sit on the east bank. Why? Because it faces west, which means they get the best view of the sunset over the city and the Kawadoko restaurants on the opposite side.

Plus, the west side has a lot of car traffic—so it’s noisier and less relaxing. The east side is more peaceful, making it the go-to spot for couples, musicians, readers, and people just enjoying the breeze.
